The Bentonville City Council passed a mask ordinance on Tuesday evening.

The ordinance immediately went into effect after a unanimous vote.

If required by a Bentonville business, individuals not wearing a mask could be asked by the business to leave the premises. Businesses will be able to report non-compliance issues to the city's non-emergency number.

The city council made limited adjustments to this original ordinance, provided by the Arkansas Municipal League in conjunction with Governor Hutchinson's office.

Adjustments included specifying mask requirements for large organized outdoor gatherings, but not all outdoor activities.

The proposed ordinance has an explicit sunset clause.

It also has considerations for Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) exemptions.
