From the Farm to your Fork!  A fresh peach or slice of melon is welcome on my fork any day but choosing the perfect specimen can be a challenge for many.  Here is a short checklist you can use when picking out your produce, use the following criteria at market.

1. Does the fruit/vegetable look bruised or have obvious damage to outer skin?

2. Is the fruit/vegetable uniform. Does it have true color and shape for that type of fruit/vegetable.

3. You want the stem still attached for most fruits/vegetables. (there are always exceptions e.g. melons, green beans, etc.)

4. When in doubt, ask the grower!

Take advantage of being face to face with the growers, this is a unique aspect of farmers markets.  The opporunity to learn about the land, production methods, and experiences with the food you enjoy straight from the growers themselves!
