The purpose: Imagine Create Connect
We believe that imagination is collateral
The Wal-art project fosters the imagination by creating an artistic experience that is both analog and digital. The experience allows individuals to participate in creating something visual within a community as well as the opportunity for the crowd to connect publicly.
The Wal-art project is an example of social art collaboration and democratizes the art experience. Our mission is to bring art out of the studio and into the street. Visual arts have been a product of the solitary and rarified world of galleries and studios and we believe the wal-art event facilitates crowd creativity, where collaboration is celebrated. Every Artist: Wal-Art
Piccaso once said that every child is an artist. On April 15 and 16, all 8000 first through sixth graders were given the opportunity to become an artist by composing a piece of art that expressed what the words service, respect and excellence meant to them. Those three words represent Sam Walton’s beliefs in the core of developing and maintaining a successful business.
Each student will be bussed to Tiger Stadium on April 20, 2012 to place their art on the football field creating one cohesive piece of art.*
Every image from the participating students will be scanned and used to create a mural which will be attached to the wall on Main Street and Central on the downtown square. The mural will be 10 feet high and 165 feet wide and will be placed at a height where the students can look directly at it. Coordinators are working hard to place the mural by late May to early June and will be celebrated at the First Friday in June and the annual Walmart Shareholders Meeting.
Sponsors include: Crayola, Rubin Foundation, Walmart Visitors Center, Hiltzik Strategies, Mobile Ops, and Downtown Bentonville Inc.
*Will be held in the indoor stadium if there is inclement weather.
